Let’s face it — from thermostats and security to appliances and toys, it’s hard to count the number of connected devices we use every day… so we did a little research.

According to a recent study, North American homes currently have an average of seven active connected devices, with laptop and desktop computers now making up less than 25% of internet traffic!

The quickly growing popularity of “smart home” technology has played a huge part in that, allowing us to create safer, more informed, and more sustainable home environments — but this crazy device boom doesn’t stop there. There are many new technologies on the horizon to count that are aimed at simplifying, speeding up, and securing us and our routines — both at home and on the go.

As we gear up for the 2017 CES extravaganza in Las Vegas next week, we thought we’d share a few new gadgets and gizmos that will most likely be making their way onto our phones or into our homes.

At Home:
Apple HomeKit technology lets you control your home’s lighting, thermostats, and more from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. HomeKit allows you to link iDevices products to other HomeKit enabled accessories, so you can control them with the iDevices Connected app or your with voice. We’re hoping we’ll be able to call it Jarvis and recreate Ironman.

In Your City:
If you want to get a glimpse of everything that’s happening in your city right now, browsing the All Events in app is a good way a good way to start. Just download the free app to discover local events (as well as things happening in cities all over the world if you’re feeling more adventurous). We especially love how easy to use the interface is, and you can even follow your favorite event organizers to stay up to date.

On the Road:
All your best-laid plans can go south if you and your travel buddies can’t stay connected while you’re out and about. When it comes to charging your smartphone (or any other electronics) in your car, look no further than the Scosche reVOLT which performs Herculean charging tasks quickly and easily.

On Your Own:
Whether it’s going on a date or going for a run, Wearsafe’s Peer-to-Peer Safety system offers some added peace-of-mind for family and friends embarking on any activity. The Tag works for those moments when you can’t access your phone, so getting a little help (or a lot) stays discreet and simple. See how it works on this recent TODAY Show broadcast, and stay safe while you’re out there having fun.

So get out there and embrace all of the great advantages that new technology has to offer! We’ll be back with another roundup of exciting new innovations to share after our journey to #CES2017, so stay tuned!
